چکیده
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODSdSixty-eight women were divided into the following three groups: 19 lean-control (23.06 2.2 kg/m) and 18 obese-control (35.06 4.8 kg/m) subjects with normal glucose tolerance, and 31 obese patients with type 2 diabetes (36.36 3.7 kg/m). Of the 31 diabetic women, 64% underwent BPD (n = 20, BMI: 36.56 3.7 kg/m) and were reassessed 1 month after surgery. Oral glucose tolerance tests and hyperglycemic clamps were performed. Mathematical modeling was used to analyze basal and stimulated b-cell function, insulin sensitivity (IS), hepatic extraction (HE) of insulin, and delay time of b-cell response to a specific plasma glucose concentration.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) surgery on β-cell function in grade I and II obese patients with type 2 diabetes using oral and intravenous glucose loads. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Sixty-eight women were divided into the following three groups: 19 lean-control (23.0 ± 2.2 kg/m(2)) and 18 obese-control (35.0 ± 4.8 kg/m(2)) subjects with normal glucose t...

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS—A total of 147 overweight (BMI$85th percentile for age and sex) youth, aged 8 to,20 years, undertook three tests: 1) a 3-h hyperinsulinemiceuglycemic clamp; 2) a 2-h hyperglycemic clamp; and 3) a 2-h OGTT. Participants were categorically assigned to five groups according to their OGTT 2-h plasma glucose level, ranging from,120 to $200 mg/dL. b-Cell function relative ...

OBJECTIVE To compare the effects of biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) and laparoscopic gastric banding (LAGB) on insulin sensitivity and secretion with the effects of laparoscopic gastric plication (P). METHODS A total of 52 obese women (age 30-66 years) suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) were prospectively recruited into three study groups: 16 BPD; 16 LAGB, and 20 P. Euglycemic cla...

OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to elucidate the mechanisms of diabetes reversibility after malabsorptive bariatric surgery. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Peripheral insulin sensitivity and beta-cell function after either intravenous (IVGTT) or oral glucose tolerance (OGTT) tests and minimal model analysis were assessed in nine obese, type 2 diabetic subjects before and 1 month after bi...
متن کاملExercise reduces body fat and improves insulin sensitivity and pancreatic β-cell function in overweight and obese male Taiwanese adolescents
BACKGROUND Improvements in insulin resistance and pancreatic β-cell function have been shown following exercise in adults with obesity; however, few adolescent-based studies have been conducted. This study examined the impact of exercise training on body fat and insulin sensitivity and secretion in overweight and obese adolescents. METHODS The effects of a 12-week exercise program on the para...
